ORLANDO, Fla.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team lost its second match in a row, falling 5-1 match to Norfolk State Friday.
With the loss, the Jackrabbits are 9-6 overall while Norfolk State improved to 1-9.
"I am so proud of the way the team fought today. You can tell we were absolutely gassed after yesterday's matches in the heat and being on the road for nine days straight," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl. "We gave everything and lost to a Norfolk team who is flying under the radar having played nothing but top-level opponents this year. We need to make the most out of tomorrow's day off and recharge our batteries as much as possible. If we rest up and bring the fight we brought today, we will be a dangerous team moving forward."
The Jackrabbits lost the doubles point, dropping matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
In singles, four of the five matches went to tiebreakers, but freshman Emerson Styles was the lone winner at No. 3.
SDSU returns to action Sunday when it plays Tennessee State.
