SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–March 5, 2016–Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) and junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) each scored 20 points to lead the South Dakota State University women's basketball team to an 80-60 win Saturday afternoon over Fort Wayne in The Summit League Championship quarterfinals at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The last time SDSU had two players score 20-or-more points in a game was sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) and Young against Northern Iowa, Dec. 9, 2015.
The 9,816 fans in attendance marked the highest mark for a women's session at The Summit League Championships and second-highest total overall.
Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Thompson added 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Jackrabbits, now 24-6.
Fort Wayne, which finished the season 7-23, was led by Allyson Bunch's 19 points. Courtney Ogle and Kamilah Carter added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Jackrabbits opened the game on a 9-0 run. They pushed the lead to 14 points, 19-5, when Miller sank a 3-point field goal before the first quarter buzzer. Young made a 3-pointer with 6:53 left in the second quarter to give SDSU a 27-7 lead. South Dakota State held a 36-19 lead at halftime.
South Dakota State scored 29 points in the third quarter to build a 65-39 lead after three quarters. Young scored seven and Miller added five points in that period.
Young added four assists, Miller recorded four steals and junior center Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) added seven points, five rebounds and four blocks.
The Jackrabbits will play the winner of Sunday's IUPUI/Omaha contest at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
