SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—March 7, 2016—The South Dakota State University women's basketball team opened Monday's The Summit League Championship semifinal with a 14-2 run and never looked back in a 76-60 victory before a session-record 7,237 fans at the PREMIER Center.
South Dakota State, now 25-6, will play South Dakota (26-5) in Tuesday's 1 p.m. championship game. The Jackrabbits have now won 25-or-more contests nine times in school history.
Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) scored nine of the Jackrabbits' first 11 points as SDSU rolled to a 14-2 lead after a 3-point field goal by senior guard Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.).
The Jackrabbits had four players score in double figures. Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.), The Summit League Freshman of the Year, scored a game-high 18 points. She sank six 3-point field goals to tie her personal best. Miller and junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) each scored 17 points while junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) recorded 11 points and 5 assists. Boever had a game- and seson-high seven assists.
Omaha, 15-15, was led by Caroline Hogue's 17 points. Mikaela Shaw added 16 points.
South Dakota State pushed its lead to 20, 27-7, with 2:47 left in the first quarter on a Guebert 3-pointer. SDSU held a 31-12 lead after the first quarter.
The Jackrabbits sank 11 3-point field goals for the second-straight tournament game.
