ORLANDO, Fla.—For the fifth time this season, the South Dakota State men's tennis team has shutout an opponent, downing Hampton, 7-0, Tuesday.
With the win, the Jackrabbits have extended their win streak to a school record eight consecutive wins and improve to 8-4 on the season.
"The team continues to roll and cleaned up some of the energy issues from last match," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "They played team tennis today and should be proud of the streak they are putting together. We need to keep focusing on the right things and playing tennis at the level we are capable of."
SDSU won the doubles point for the seventh-straight match. Junior Jonny Higham and sophomore Marco Paulo Castro improved to 5-1 in dual matches with a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1. Senior Mateus Moreira and freshman Emerson Styles won their second consecutive match with a 6-2 win at No. 2.
Senior Lovro Curcija improved to 7-2 at No. 1 singles, junior Lucus Pereira won his seventh consecutive match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4. Senior Henrique Pereira won at No. 2, improving to 3-2 overall.
Moreira won his eight-straight match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5. Castro remains undefeated at No. 6 with a 5-0 record.
The Jackrabbits return to action Thursday when they play Youngstown State at 9 a.m. and Saint Francis (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
