OMAHA—The South Dakota State men's tennis team lost 6-1 at Creighton in a nonleague match Friday at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Jackrabbits fall to 12-12 overall while the Bluejays improve to 8-9.
"Today was a tough match mentally with the big Omaha match coming up tomorrow. With that being said, we are going to have to come with a lot more passion and fight then we did today," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Today was not Jackrabbit tennis and today was not the team we have been a majority of the year. We need to regroup in a hurry and get ready for an Omaha team that is going to be fired up and ready to play. Our seniors need to really step up and take control of the team they want to leave behind. Playoffs begin for us tomorrow and it is going to be a battle."
In doubles, SDSU lost two matches to give Creighton the 1-0 lead.
Junior Lucas Pereira tied the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Senior Mateus Moreira went three sets at No. 4 singles, but fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
The Jackrabbits lost the final four singles matches in straight sets.
SDSU plays its final regular-season game of the year when it meets Omaha Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center. Winner of the match advances to the 2016 Summit League Championship next weekend in Omaha.
