Tennis Concludes Day One of Regionals

The South Dakota State men's and women's tennis teams closed out the first day of the ITA Central Regional Championships Thursday evening.

On the women's side, Morgan Brower and Theodora Kyriakopoulou were the only Jacks to travel to Kansas. The duo dropped an, 8-0 decision to Bizhukova and Porubin of Wichita State.

Brower fell to Tess Herder of Drake, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of singles. Kyriakopoulou was topped 6-0, 6-0 by Oparenovic of Arkansas. Both players move to the consolation bracket.

For the men, Emerson Styles was the lone Jackrabbit to win his match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jon Meyer of Nebraska.

Elliot Ward fell 6-4, 7-5, while Henrique Stemmer dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Chuck Tang was upended by Barnabas Koncz, 6-2, 6-1 and senior Marco Paulo Castro was topped by Marius Frosa, 6-2, 6-4.

Chuck Tang, Carlos Martinez and Alexander Reinke also lost their first round matches.

In doubles, Ward and Castro fell to Parry and Yanaba, 8-5, while Stemmer and DeBoer dropped to Moorehead and Dunn of Omaha. Reinke and Martinez lost their match as well.

Styles and Tang were the only duo to capture a win with an 8-2 victory.
