GRAND FORKS, N. D. - The South Dakota State men's tennis team fell short to North Dakota, 4-3 Saturday evening.
"The men should be proud of the way they played today,"
Ffion Davies said. "We didn't come out great during the doubles but we did such a great job turning it around and fighting in singles. We had some close matches and were unlucky in the end. We need to use this momentum and continue to fight and play in future matches!"
The Fighting Hawks swept doubles to claim the point.
Marco Paulo Castro captured the first point for the Jacks with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 to tie the score 1-1.
Elliot Ward was upended 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
Emerson Styles dropped a close match at No. 1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. UND led 3-1.
Henrique Stemmer fell short at No. 6, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.
Carlos Martinez won another point for SDSU with a 7-6, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
Alexander Reinke garnered the final point for the Jacks with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2.
