KANSAS CITY, Missouri—South Dakota State junior
Makenzie Hennen led the Jackrabbit volleyball team's offense with 11 kills, but the Jacks lost 3-0 to UMKC Friday afternoon in the UMKC Invitational. State lost 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23.

Crystal Burk registered 10 kills and eight digs in her first collegiate match. Rookie
Ellie Thein came off the bench for a team-best 10 digs.

In the first set, UMKC jumped out quick and led 12-9. The Jacks cut the lead to 21-18 after Hennen recorded a kill and sophomore
Maddie Fay had a service ace. UMKC closed with a 4-1 run.

UMKC took a 5-1 lead before Burk had back-to-back kills to put SDSU up 11-10. The Jackrabbits tied it again at 16-16 after a Kangaroos' ball handing error. UMKC finished the set with four-straight points.

Late in the third set the Jackrabbit fought back after trailing 21-11. Senior
Sierra Peterson and Hennen had back-to-back kills. A UMKC attacking error and a Fay service ace forced a Kangaroo timeout at 21-15. A solo block by Burk and block assists by Peterson and junior
Ashlynn Smith tied the set at 22-22. UMKC responded with a pair of kills and a service ace for the win.
