The South Dakota State volleyball team opens its 53rd volleyball campaign this weekend when it plays in the UMKC Invitational in Kansas City, Missouri. The Jackrabbits play the host Kangaroos at 1 p.m. Friday in their season opener and Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the Jacks take on Western Michigan at 11 a.m.

SDSU opens the season on the road for the 11th-straight year. The Jackrabbits went 1-2 in the 2017 season-opening Pepsi Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Setting the Scene
- South Dakota State opens its 53rd season overall and 14th in the Division I era.
- The Jackrabbits sport an 896-708-8 (.555) all-time record and 175-257 (.405) mark in Division I play.

SDSU makes its first appearance at the UMKC Invitational. The Jacks and the Kangaroos did play each other last season with State winning in four sets at the CEFCU Invitational in Peoria, Illinois.

The Jackrabbits play UMKC for the 17th time with SDSU holding the series lead, 11-6. It will be the first meeting between South Dakota State and Austin Peay and Western Michigan.
