The South Dakota State volleyball dropped a 3-0 match to Green Bay Saturday in the final match of the Comfort Suites University Jackrabbits Invitational at Frost Arena.
Â
The Jackrabbits (0-6) lost 25-15, 25-14 and 25-15. The Phoenix improved to 3-4.
Â
"I feel like we are underperforming. We are better than what we are showing right now, and that's frustrating. The team feels it, I definitely feel it, so those are things we just have to work through," fourth-year head coach
Nicole Cirillo said.
Â
Junior
Makenzie Hennen, an all-tournament selection, led the Jacks offensively with seven kills. Sophomore
Kari Brucker had 12 digs and freshman
Ellie Thein added 10 digs.
Â
Taylor Wolf led Green Bay with a match-high 21 kills.
Â
How it Happened: Green Bay led 22-13 after it recorded five kills in a row from Wolf and Alex Zakutney and then registered a service ace. The Jackrabbits managed two more points the rest of the set.
Â
In set two, SDSU fell behind 19-6, before Hennen had back-to-back kills. After a Green Bay kill, junior
Ashlynn Smith added a kill to cut the lead to 20-9. The Jacks committed a ball handling error to end the set.
Â
Much like the previous two sets, the Jackrabbits were behind, trailing 21-9. SDSU scored the next three points on a pair of freshman
Crystal Burk kills and two Green Bay hitting errors. The Phoenix outscored State 4-2 down the stretch for the win. Â Â
