SIOUX FALLS – The Summit League released its women's basketball preseason poll on Monday morning, with South Dakota State being tabbed second.
Tagyn Larson and
Myah Selland were named to the All-Summit League Preseason First Team, while
Tylee Irwin earned All-Summit League Preseason Second Team accolades.

The poll is voted on by Summit League coaches, sports information directors and select media.

Tagyn Larson was named to the 2018-19 Preseason All-Summit League Second Team and earned All-Summit League Second Team honors last season. Larson started in all 35 games for the Jackrabbits, holding team-bests with 6.4 rebounds per game and a total of 43 blocked shots. She averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 50 percent or higher from the field in 24 games. Larson ranked second in the Summit League in field goal percentage at 54.5 percent (140-of-275).

Myah Selland earned 2018-19 Preseason All-Summit League Second Team honors and also received All-Summit League Honorable Mention last season. The junior started in all 33 games in which she appeared in. Selland averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. She also scored in double figures on 25 occasions.

Tylee Irwin, a first-time preseason honoree, started in 34 games for the Jackrabbits last season. She shot 42.5 percent from the field on the season, including 12 games of 50 percent or higher. On the season, Irwin averaged 7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

The Jackrabbits are the two-time defending Summit League tournament champions and have captured nine of the last 11 titles. Larson, Selland and Irwin are SDSU's three starters returning from a squad that posted a 28-7 overall record in advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program and Summit League history. In addition to the three starters, the Jackrabbits return eight members from last year's squad in addition to three newcomers.Â

The Jackrabbits claimed a total of 496 points and 13 first place votes in the preseason poll. South Dakota was voted the favorite with 20 first place votes and 527 points, while Denver rounded out the top three with 394 points and a lone first place vote.

Six home games and a total of six contests against fellow NCAA Tournament qualifiers from a year ago highlight a challenging nonconference portion of the Jackrabbits schedule. Summit League action begins Dec. 29 at Omaha.

Fans will have their chance to see the team at the 2019 Jackrabbit Tip-off on Thursday Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, SDSU will host St. Cloud State in an exhibition at 6 p.m.
