KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The South Dakota State women's golf team is in 12
th place and
Teresa Toscano is tied for fourth overall after the initial two rounds of the 23rd annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.Â
"The ladies competed all day. Unfortunately we missed the green with many short irons and had too many three puts to be in contention," said head golf coach
Casey VanDamme. "Thanks to Strength Coach Meyer, we didn't appear to get tired on the long, hot day! We're looking forward to competing tomorrow. There are a lot of great programs we are in contention with and it would be nice to pass a few more up."

The Jackrabbits finished the day at 299-299—598 (+30) on the par-71, 5,900 yard course. No. 11-ranked Kent State leads the 16-team field after shooting 555 (-13) in the first two rounds, while Charlotte is in second with 559 (-9).

Toscano leads the Jacks at three-under par after the first 36 holes. In round one, the senior posted four birdies in the back nine alone en route to carding a 69 (-2). Toscana added birdies on holes 3, 9, 11, 13 and 15 as she shot 70 (-1) in the second round to finish the first day of competition tied for fourth.

"I am proud of Teresa," VanDamme said. "She worked very hard this summer and is starting to see that she can compete even without her best stuff."

Mia Seeman is tied for 50
th with 75-77—152 (+10), while
Lani Potter registered the second best score on the team in round two (74) to finish the day with a total of 154 (+12).

Sydney Bormann was tie for second on the team after round one at four-over par, but finished the day at 154 (+14) after firing an 81 (+10) in the second round.

Cassidy Laidlaw factored into the team score in the final 18 holes of the day with a 78 (+7). She finished the day with 162 (+20).
