Men take eighth at Island Resort Intercollegiate

HARRIS, Mich. – The South Dakota State men's golf team finished eighth in an elite 10-team field at the Island Resort Intercollegiate hosted by the Jackrabbits at the 72-par, 7,375-yard Sage Run Golf Club in Harris, Mich. on Monday.

GOLFSTAT

After posting a third round score of 299 (+11), which mirrored its first round score, SDSU earned a 54-hole total of 895 (+31). Liberty moved up two places after shooting a final round of 285 (-3) to capture first. Purdue finished second (280-285-291—856) while East Carolina (282-287-290—859) and UCF (292-281-286—859) tied for third.

Jacob Otta recorded a team-best five birdies in round three for the Jackrabbits. The Sioux Falls native finished tied for 22^nd after a consistent three rounds, 74-73-73—220 (+4).

Matthew Schaefer and Jones Comerford tied for 42^nd overall and second on the Jacks' squad with a three-round total of 226 (+10). Shchaefer had his best round of the season-opening tournament with a one-over-par 73 on the final 18 holes, while Comerford carded a 75 (+3) for the second round in a row.

Harry Duggan posted a score of 78 in the final round to factor into the team score. The sophomore finish 50^th overall, 80-74-78—232 (+16).

After posting a one-under-par 71 in the opening round, Jack Tanner carded 80 in each of the final two rounds for a total of 231 (+15), tying for 55^th.

The South Dakota State men's golf team is back in action next week, Sept. 8-10, at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis.
