South Dakota State hosted South Dakota Friday night at Frost Arena and fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-14, 15-25, 22-25) to the Coyotes.
The Jackrabbits move to 12-9 on the season and 4-6 in Summit League contests.
SDSU held a 6-4 lead in the first but allowed five straight Coyote kills to trail 6-9. The Jackrabbits could not manage consecutive points in the remainder of the set and fell 25-14.
The Jacks were dominant in set two, registering a massive .636 attack rate en route to the 11-point win, the highest clip of either team in any set. Five of
Crystal Burk's 17 kills came in set two alone.
SDSU scored nine unanswered points to open the game with a 9-1 lead.
Chloe Stitt put down the first kill of the run and tallied two aces in the stretch. The Jacks used kills from
Elyse Winter and
Ella Thompson to push that lead to 14-3.
USD looked to rally late with a 6-1 run and trailed by 10 at 23-13. Back-to-back Burk kills gave SDSU set point and Winter finished the set off with another kill of her own.
Set three swung the match back in the Coyotes' direction. It was a tight set early, with the last of five ties coming at 6-6. The Jackrabbits were down one at 10-9 before USD went on a tear to end the set, outscoring the Jacks 15-6.
The Jackrabbits did everything they could to stay within striking distance in set four and was down just 22-21 late. The team committed two service errors, however, to give USD two of its final three points in the match.
Burk registered a double-double, her 10th of the season, notching 17 kills to go with 12 digs. Stitt was just behind with 16 kills and had nine digs. The pair were also the most efficient Jackrabbits with Burk hitting at a .325 clip and Stitt just behind at .316.
Tatum Pickar had 17 digs and
Ella Thompson took part in four blocks, both team highs.
Jasmine Weidemann tallied 37 assists and an ace serve. Stitt and Pickar added two assist apiece.
