St. Paul, Minn. - South Dakota State volleyball picked up a 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-15) victory over St. Thomas Friday night at Schoenecker Arena. After dropping set one, the Jacks rallied to win the next three to move above .500 in Summit League action at 7-6.
Crystal Burk (15),
Chloe Stitt (11) and
Sydney Andrews (10) all tallied double-digit kills for the Jackrabbits.
Ella Thompson's .385 hitting percentage and four blocks led SDSU.
SDSU ended set four in dominating fashion with a 16-3 run to take the match. Four of Burk's kills and three aces by
Anna Nerad came in that stretch.
St. Thomas took a 13-5 lead in the opening set and extended that margin to 17-9. SDSU used a 6-0 run with four kills by Burk to come back within two points but the Tommies went on to win the set by four points.
The Jackrabbits cruised through set two, leading by as many as 11 on their way to the win. The Tommies had eight errors in the set, only two of which were the results of SDSU blocks. SDSU notched seven service aces in set two with three by
Chloe Stitt.
SDSU raced out to a 12-4 advantage in the third set and looked on its way to another win on cruise control before the Tommies mounted a comeback. Five consecutive UST points made it a 21-19 game late in the set. The Tommies scored another four unanswered to tie the set up at 24.
The set was tied at 25 before an
Elyse Winter kill and a Tommie attack error ended the set for the Jackrabbits.
Chloe Stitt amassed five service aces in the match, a Jackrabbit career high.
Carly Wedel dished out 37 assists and
Tatum Pickar had 18 digs.
NOTES
- The Jackrabbits move to 15-9 on the season, the most wins since the Jacks had 16 victories in 2012.
- SDSU had 14 service aces in the match, the most of the season and four aces shy of the Jackrabbit single-match record.
