South Dakota State volleyball is on the road to St. Thomas and Western Illinois for the upcoming weekend.
SDSU at UST
SERIES HISTORY
The Jacks and the Tommies have met twice in history with SDSU winning both contests. The first time the teams played was in the 1988 season and the second was earlier this year at Frost Arena.
SDSU swept the first meeting of the season on October 9. The Jackrabbits recorded a .532 attack rate with three players hitting .462 or higher. Crystal Burk led all players with 13 kills and attacked at a .600 clip. Sydney Andrews added nine kills with a .615 hitting percentage and Elyse Winter hit .462 with seven kills.
Jasmine Weidemann had 44 assists to go with three kills and Tatum Pickar had 14 digs. Andrews had six blocks.
THE TOMMIES
St. Thomas has won just two Summit League contest this season, both over North Dakota. The Tommies beat UND in their most recent content. Prior to that match, the Legue newcomers had been swept nine consecutive times.
Lauren Galvin is the Tommies' leader on the attack. She averages 3.35 kills per set and has 248 kills on 738 attacks this year. Her .210 attack rate is a team high among the typical rotation. The next closest teammate, Libby Mattila, notches 1.78 kills per set with 105 kills on 379 attempts. Galvin is also the UST leader from the service line with 25 aces on the year.
Grace Anetipa dishes out 5.39 assists per set for UST. Mattila and Eva Fitzgerald have chipped in 13 aces apiece.
Defensively, Carrie Rutledge leads the way at 3.22 digs per set and 238 total. Galvin has the next highest total, 161 digs, and a 2.18 per set average. Ellie Dammann averages .76 blocks per set for the Tommies and has 56Â total rejections this season.
SDSU at WIU
SERIES HISTORY
SDSU and WIU have met 30 times since the start of the series in 2007. SDSU is 20-10 all-time against the Leathernecks. The sides last met earlier this season with the Jacks winning 3-1 at Frost.
Jasmine Weidemann notched 48 assists for the Jackrabbits in her first career start. The freshman nearly recorded a double-double with nine digs. Chloe Stitt's 18 kills paced the SDSU offense and Sydney Andrews attacked at a .400 clip with nine kills. Crystal Burk had 11 kills and 12 digs. Pickar contributed 24 digs to go with six aces.
THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois is 3-10 in Summit League action this season. Their most recent win was a 3-2 victory over North Dakota. The Leathernecks have been swept 11 times this fall.
Mariah Mitchell and Aubrey Putman average 2.70 and 2.27 kills per set, respectively, to pace the Leatherneck attack. Peyton Bowman hits at a .302 clip and puts down 1.82 kills on average. Bowman is also WIU's blocking leader. She has 52 total blocks on the season and averages .87 blocks per set.
Cassie Hunt averages 6.33 assists per set as the Leathernecks' setter and has 22 kills to go with a team-high 14 ace serves. Jessie Connell adds 4.52 assists on average.
Gabby DePersio paces WIU with 3.52 digs per set Putman and Hunt add 2.49 and 2.48 digs, respectively.
The Leatherneck team attacks at a .170 clip, the No. 8 attack percentage in the Summit League.
THE JACKRABBITS
South Dakota State is 14-9 overall and 6-6 in the Summit League after a pair of wins last week over Oral Roberts and Kansas City. The Jacks sit sixth in the Summit standings with six matches to play.
The Jacks are in search of their first true road win of the season as they are 0-7 this season on their opponents' home courts.
Crystal Burk leads the Summit League with 3.80 kills per set and has 327 on the season, which ranks second. Chloe Stitt ranks ninth on the conference list with 2.96 kills per set. Sydney Andrews' .261 attack rate leads the Jackrabbit starting lineup.
Tatum Pickar's 3.84 digs per set paces the Jackrabbit back row and ranks sixth in the Summit League. Crystal Burk adds 2.52 digs on average. Carly Wedel gives out 9.62 assists per set and Jasmine Weidemann adds 8.62. The duo split the setting duties in the last match.
Ella Thompson averages .99 blocks per set, ninth in the Summit League. Sydney Andrews adds .76 rejections on average.
