ST. GEORGE, Utah – South Dakota State women's golf is in first place after the 36-hole opener at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational. Senior Teresa Toscano raced to the top of the leaderboard with a record-breaking performance.

The Jackrabbits hold a 36-hole team score of 578 (+2). In the first round, State recorded a two-under 286 which marked the lowest 18-hole team score since the 2016-17 season. Oral Roberts is in second place with 600 (+24) while California Baptist is in third with 602 (+26).

Toscano opened the event recording nine birdies en route to setting a new program record for South Dakota State. The senior carded an eight-under 64 in the first round, shattering the previous record of 68 that she shared with Megan Mingo, Hallie Getz and Sydney MacDonald.

Toscano's record-breaking day didn't stop there. She went on to record a five-under 67 in the second round for a new program-best 36-hole score of 131 (-13). Through the two rounds she totaled 15 birdies.

"The team played great in cold and wet conditions," Director of Golf Casey VanDamme said. "Our ladies are tough and it showed today. Teresa's 36 holes were absolutely incredible. She has worked hard and improved each year in college. Today was her best and we look forward to tomorrow."

Competing as an individual, Mia Seeman finished the 36 holes even par, including a first-round score of two-under 70.

Hester Sicking is tied for sixth with 74-74—148 (+4) while Lani Potter follows closely behind tied for ninth with 73-76—149 (+5).

Alex Kandolin and Cassidy Laidlaw factored into the team score in a round each. Kandolin is tied for 32nd through 36 holes with 154 (+10) and Laidlaw is tied for 47th with 157 (+13).
