South Dakota State announced the addition of Shakira Kuys to the women's golf team Tuesday.

"We were very impressed with Shakira throughout the recruiting process," assistant coach
Maggie Murphy said. "She is a highly regarded junior golfer in Australia. Shakira's discipline and work ethic make her a great fit for our program. We look forward to getting her on campus this fall!"

The Marino, South Australia native has been selected to the South Australian Junior Girls State Team four consecutive years and to the South Australian Women's State team in 2019. Kuys, who was selected to the A1 Women's Pennant Team from 2018-2021, was named the Women's Pennant Player of the Year on two occasions.

Kuys won the 2020 Anne Smerdon Junior Girls Invitational, finished fourth at the 2020 South Australian Junior Masters and 8
th at the 2020 SA Women's Amateur Championship where she qualified for match play.

Kuys, a two-time Academic Excellence Award winner, will enroll at SDSU this fall and intends to major in psychology.
