BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota State volleyball head coach
Dan Georgalas has announced the addition of two players to the 2024 roster as part of National Signing Day.
Madison Burr and Taylor Byl have signed letters of intent and will enroll at South Dakota State as freshmen next fall.
Madison Burr (6-1, Outside Hitter -- Goodhue, Minn., Cannon Falls High School)
Madison Burr is a two-time all-state selection who comes to South Dakota State from Goodhue, Minnesota. She owns the Cannon Falls High School record for both single-season and career kills.
Burr recently completed her senior season at Cannon Falls High School, where she was a team captain and helped the squad finish as section runners-up. As a junior in 2022, Burr led Cannon Falls to a state championship and was named to the all-tournament team. Burr surpassed 1,000-career kills in her junior season and set the Cannon Falls single-season record with 468 kills. In total, Burr recorded 1,119 kills, 579 digs, 290 blocks and 99 ace serves in her high school career. She has been named to three all-conference first teams.
Burr is the daughter of Robert and Kimberly Burr. She is on the Cannon Falls honor roll and plans to major in architecture.
Taylor Byl (6-3, Middle Blocker -- Harrisburg, S.D., Sioux Falls Christian High School)
Taylor Byl comes to South Dakota State as a two-time state champion from Sioux Falls Christian High School.
Byl helped the Chargers win back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022, her sophomore and junior seasons. She holds a .364 hit percentage, a .516 kill percentage and has tallied 94 total blocks. With Byl's help, Sioux Falls Christian is 32-4 in her senior year and is set to play in the Class A state quarterfinal match next week.
Byl is the daughter of Chad and Laura Byl. She plans to major in exercise science.
