IOWA CITY - The South Dakota State men's golf team posted its best three-round score of the season Saturday as it wrapped the Hawkeye Invitational with an 869 (+5) at the Finkbine Golf Course.
The Jackrabbits shot 2-under in the final round of the tournament, their best single round of the weekend, and moved up one spot into seventh place on the leaderboard.
Matthew Schaefer fired a 70 (-2) in round three, bringing his final tally to 218 (+2) for a t-25th place finish. His last round was fairly steady with three birdies, 14 par holes and only one bogey. His Saturday performance pushed him up 16 spots in the standings from his place after round two.
Luke Honner finished in a tie for 31st place with a 219 (+3) scorecard. It was his best 54-hole score of the year.
Jonah Dohrer carded a season-best 68 (-4) on his third lap, including an eagle on hole six, to place t-37th (220, +4).
Noah Boraas tied for 39th place and posted a season-best 221 (+5).
Ty Kretz tied for 53rd (226, +10).
Tyler Seeling competed individually and placed t-51st (225, +9).
Iowa, the host team, won the team title by five shots on its home course. The Hawkeyes' Mac McClear went 10-under to earn medalist honors.

SDSU will play its final regular-season competition at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate next weekend in Columbus, Ohio.
