COLUMBUS, Ohio - The South Dakota State men's golf team battled tough weather and a tough course this weekend to finish tied for seventh at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State.
The Jacks competed through wet and windy conditions over the past three days on what head coach
Parker Edens described as the toughest course they've played all year.
"I'm really proud of the guys this week, this was quite the test," said Edens. "They hung in there all week and played great golf and kept the great momentum we've had going into next week's Summit League Championship. We beat or tied 10 teams and 8 of those were ranked ahead of us. I'm really looking forward to next weeks event in Lincoln and seeing the boys carry some great momentum forward."
SDSU tied Butler for seventh place with an 892 (+40) team score.
Matthew Schaefer posted a 219 (+6) final tally, including a 1-over-par 72 on the final lap. He tied for 14th place.
Ty Kretz finished in a tie for 17th place with a 220 (+7) scorecard.
Jonah Dohrer was +12 (225) to finish in a tie for 35th, followed by
Luke Honner in a tie for 53rd (228, +15).
Noah Boraas tallied a 236 (+23) and finished tied for 83rd place.
SDSU recorded a par score on 170 total holes, the most of every team in the field. Kretz and Schaefer led all players with 40 and 38 par holes, respectively.
No. 25 Ohio State won the team title by 19 shots over Kent State. The Buckeyes turned in an 854 (+2) final scorecard. Northern Illinois' Ben Sluzsas earned medalist honors with a 211 (-2).
