BEAUMONT, Texas - The South Dakota State women's golf team put together a solid day on the course and is on track for one of their best finishes of the season following two rounds at the Beaumont Country Club.
The Jackrabbits hold a 601 (+25) team score through 36 holes and sit in second place. Host Lamar leads the field with a 590 (+9) on its home course. SDSU has an eight-shot lead over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.
Three Jackrabbits are inside the top-10 on the individual leaderboard with the other two not far behind. Eight of the 10 rounds played either matched or bettered the player's average score-to-par this year.
Alex Kandolin posted a 146 (+2) Monday and is in second place. She opened the tournament with a 3-over 75, then tallied a 1-under 71 on the second lap. She collected five total birdies on the day.
Piper Stubbs is in fourth place with a 147 (+3). The sophomore went 1-under (71) in the opening round with four birdies and 4-over (76) on the second lap.
Tatum Depuydt is tied for ninth place (154, +10). She recorded a 75 (+3) on round one and 79 (+7) on round two. Depuydt had five birdies across the two rounds.
Shakira-Ann Kuys had the next best day for the Jacks. She is in a tie for 13th place with a 155 (+11) scorecard.
McKenzie Mages rounds out the Jacks in a tie for 16th place with a 156 (+12) scorecard.
As a team, SDSU tallied 109 par holes on the day, the most of any team. Kuys led the way with 27 total par scores.
The team returns to the course Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes of the tournament. A 298 (+10) tally on the final lap would result in the Jacks' best final scorecard of the season.
