NORMAL, Ill. - The South Dakota State women's golf team broke the program's 18-hole scoring record in the opening round of the Redbird Invitational Sunday. SDSU fired a 277 (-11) team tally over the first round, five shots better than the previous school record.
The Jackrabbits also set a new tournament record for a single round. The team had a seven-shot lead after one round.
Alex Kandolin led the Jackrabbits on the opening lap. The fifth year carded a 66 (-6) on the round that included a pair of eagles and four birdies. Her 66 is the second-best single-round score in Jackrabbit history.
The Jacks sit in third place after two rounds of play with a 582 (+6) score.
Piper Stubbs is the top Jackrabbit after 36 holes. She went 3-under on her first lap and tallied a 74 (+2) on the second to sit in a tie for third place.
Reese Jansa matched Stubbs' 69 (-3) in her morning round and carded a 78 (+5) on the afternoon lap. She is tied for 13th place with one round remaining.
Shakira-Ann Kuys is in a tie for 24th place (73-76--149), Kandolin is tied for 34th place (66-85--151) and
McKenzie Mages is tied for 42nd (75-77--152).
Molly O'Hara is playing as the Jacks' individual representative. She is in a tie for 28th place (79-71--150).
Bradley's Grace Aromando leads the field following matching 67 (-5) scores (134, -10). Illinois State sits atop the team leaderboard (577, +1).
NOTES
- The previous team record for a single round was 282, which was recorded twice in consecutive rounds at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational in March 2017.Â
- Teresa Toscano owns the best individual single round in program history. She fired a 64 (-8) on the first round of the Lady Thunderbird Invitational in March 2021.Â
