BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State swept the SDSU Indoor Classic as junior
Brielle Dixon made waves by breaking her own school record on Saturday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Dixon lit up the track in the 60-meter hurdle finals, speeding to victory in 8.30 seconds to win the event and record the fastest time in the Summit League this season. This is the second week in a row she has broken her own previous best to rewrite the top spot on the SDSU All-Time List.
Savannah Risseeuw also qualified for those event finals, claiming fourth in a quick 8.59, just .03 off her personal best.
Numerous Jackrabbits across the meet also recorded all-time performances and top 10 finishes in their events.
Jaiden Boomsma and
Maggie Madsen re-established themselves in SDSU 200-meter dash history. Boomsma finished as runner-up in the event with a 24.64 for fifth all-time and Madsen claimed fith in 24.82 for sixth all-time.
Erika Kuntz grabbed a new PR in the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.93, giving her a fifth place overall finish.
Claire Beckman won the 800-meter run in a personal-best time of 2:10.87, placing her third in SDSU history.
Grace Waage also joined the list with her third-place time of 2:12.68, making her eighth all-time.
Harley Fischer clocked a 2:13.84 for sixth place overall.
Waage then climbed the All-Time List in the mile run alongside
Jessica Lutmer, as they finished first and third, respectively. Waage's time of 4:50.75 placed her fourth all-time as Lutmer sits ninth with a clocking of 4:54.13.
Madison Kizer won the high jump with a height of 5-06.25, followed by
Layne Kirkendoll (5-04.25) in fifth and
Hadley Carlson (5-02.25) in 10
th.
Kirkendoll then took 10
th in the long jump with her leap of 17-04.25 as
Emma Smith (37-01.25, PR) and
Camryn Brinkman (36-08.50) represented SDSU in the triple jump finals, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively.
Jessica Boekelheide, Kuntz, Beckman and Madsen teamed up to take sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:55.38. The squad of
Emily Rystrom,
Reese Luze,
Hannah Spoden and
Harley Fischer clocked a 3:57.35 for eighth.
South Dakota State women finished first with 93.5 points in the team standings out of 28 squads. South Dakota took second with 63 points and U-Mary rounded out the top three with 58 points.
On the men's side of competition,
Pierre Lear won the men's 60-meter hurdles with a clocking of 7.93 in the event finals and
Jake Werner finished third in the 200-meter dash with a PR of 21.56, good enough for fourth all-time at SDSU.
Also finishing in the top 10 were
Thailan Hallman and
Reggie Slaba, who claimed sixth in 48.85 and tenth in 49.23, respectively.
Brandon Kampsen took eighth in the 800-meter run with a stamp of 1:53.48.
Five Jacks finished in the top 10 of the men's mile, led by Kampsen's all-time performance. His time of 4:06.19 places him seventh in SDSU history as
Cody Larson made his event debut with a 4:11.19 for seventh place.
Will Lohr (4:11.98) finished eighth,
Josh Becker (4:12.76) came ninth and
Jackson Dutcher (4:13.21, PR) was 10
th.
Connor Powers finished 10
th in the high jump with his clearance of 6-04.00 and
Rylan McDonnell was third in the long jump finals with a personal-best mark of 23-00.00.
Tristen Hanna claimed runner-up in the triple jump finals with a mark of 46-10.75 as SDSU 4x400-meter relay team of Slaba, Hallman,
Kudra Nzibariza and
Andrew Moeller ran a time of 3:18.68 for a fifth place finish overall.
The Jackrabbit men scored 83 points for first out of 25 teams. Northern Iowa came second with 61 points and rounding out the top three was Dordt with 44 points.
