SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. - The South Dakota State men's golf team wrapped the opening day of match play at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate Monday at Sweetens Cove Golf Club.
The Jackrabbits started the day head-to-head with High Point and fell 4-0-2 to the Panthers.
Tyler Seeling and
Jonah Dohrer each won their matchups. Seeling posted a 3 & 2 victory over Fred Roberts IV while Dohrer won 2 & 1 over Charlie Barr.
Bryson Mercier,
Ty Kretz and
Luke Honner each played matches to the final hole but ultimately fell 1 & 0.
Blake Schaper fell 2 & 1.
Following the loss to High Point, SDSU moved into the consolation bracket to take on Murray State. The Jackrabbits took a 4-0-2 lead over the Racers before play was suspended due to darkness. Honner has a commanding five-up lead through 13 holes over Trey Lewis. Kretz, Seeling and Schaper also have leads over their opponents. Mercier and Dohrer trail by just one hole apiece through 12 holes played.
Weather permitting, play for the second match will resume Tuesday at 10 a.m. followed by the final match.
