Parker Edens, head coach of the South Dakota State men's golf team, bowed out in the Round of 16 at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Tuesday at Independence Golf Club.
Edens opened competition in Virginia by tying for third place in stroke play action Saturday. He tallied a 7-under scorecard over 36 holes and was just one shot off the top of the leaderboard.
Edens went into match play as the No. 3 seed. He won his Round of 64 match 3 & 2 over Andrew Price, then his Round of 32 match 3 & 2 over Matthew McClean. He came up just short in the Round of 16, falling to Will Davenport in a match that came down to the final hole.
Coach Edens was a quarterfinalist in the 2023 U.S. Mid-Am. The U.S. Mid-Amateur is open to any amateur golfer who has reached their 25th birthday as of September 21 and whose Handicap Index does not exceed 2.4.
