South Dakota State participated in its ninth NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 14, when the Jackrabbits took on No. 5 seed and nationally-ranked Iowa in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes defeated the Jacks, 1-0, ending another remarkable season in SDSU's program history.Â
The Jackrabbit soccer program completed its 26th season and earned its 16th overall conference title. The Jacks have won six regular season conference championships, while they claimed their 10th tournament title in 2025. SDSU won the United Soccer Conference tournament title in 2006. The Jackrabbits have since won the Summit League Women's Soccer tournament championship in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The nine Summit League tournament trophies earned are the most by a conference member all-time, topping the eight that were won by former member Valparaiso.Â
SDSU is 8-0 in The Summit League Championship over the past three seasons, en route to earning back-to-back-to-back titles, while the Jackrabbits are 10-1 in four of the past five years. The 2025 run through the Summit League tournament featured all shutouts by SDSU for the first time ever for the Jackrabbits. The three-peat in conference titles was the first in the conference since SDSU accomplished the same feat from 2014-16. Oakland holds the record with four straight championships from 2000-03.Â
The Jacks' opening round match of the conference tournament saw SDSU defeat Omaha, 1-0. Arguably the Jackrabbits' toughest test historically in postseason play, the two sides are 2-2-1 all-time in the league tournament. SDSU then beat Denver in the conference semifinals, 1-0. The Jackrabbits were a thorn in the side of the Pioneers during their time in The Summit League. Announced to be leaving the conference for the West Coast Conference, Denver never won a postseason match versus the SDSU. The Jacks were 3-0-3 versus the Pios. SDSU's three victories came in 2025, 2024 and 2021, while the Jacks earned conference titles via penalty kicks against Denver in 2019, 2016 and 2014.
SDSU's 2-0 victory over Oral Roberts continued a trend of the Jacks over the Golden Eagles. State is 5-0-1 against ORU in the postseason and holds a 20-1-3 all-time record in the series.Â
SDSU won its inaugural appearance in the NCAA Tournament when the Jacks beat Colorado, 1-0, in 2008. The Jackrabbits now stand 1-8-1 all-time in its NCAA showings. The 1-0 loss to the Hawkeyes was SDSU's closest margin of defeat since its 2019 loss at Oklahoma State by the same score.Â
All three of SDSU's losses came by 1-0 margins. The Jacks also lost at Kansas on Aug. 17 and at Denver on Oct. 9. The Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA Second Round along with the Hawkeyes, while Kansas has since moved to the NCAA Tournament's Third Round.
The Jackrabbits went 13-3-6 overall on the season. Their .727 win percentage is the exact same as the 2024 season that saw SDSU go 15-5-2. The win percentage is tied for the fourth best in program history, while the 13 wins marked the fifth straight year recorded with at least 13 victories.Â
Multiple trends stood out by season end. SDSU was 8-0-1 when leading at the half, 9-0-1 when scoring two or more goals, 12-0-2 when scoring first and 7-0-0 in its blue kits.
South Dakota State set a new program record among many other notables during the 2025 season. The Jackrabbits' 48 assists are a new program single-season record. SDSU's point output of 134 is its second most ever in its DI era, trailing its 151 points recorded during the 2021 campaign. SDSU's three losses are its third lowest total, trailing the spring of 2021 (0) and 2022 (1) seasons. The Jacks' six ties this year are tied for the most ever.
Individually,
Mia Bosch had nine assists which ranks fifth for a single season. The last Jackrabbit to dish 10 assists was Karlee Manding in 2022, while Diana Potterveld set the record of 12 in 2014.
Several Jackrabbit careers came to a close with the NCAA Tournament loss. Graduate students
Renny Buchanan and
Lauren Walter earned a title in their lone seasons in Yellow and Blue.
Shelby Hopeau was a part of three title winning squads.
Lauren Eckerle was a two-year captain for the Jacks. She capped her college career with First Team All-Summit League and Summit League All-Tournament Team honors, while she was the Tournament MVP.
