The Jackrabbit equestrian team returns home for the final two meets of the regular season, hosting No. 10 Baylor and Minnesota Crookston this weekend.
Competition Friday is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start, with the jumping seat events held indoors and the Western events outdoors at the DeHaan Equestrian Center. Live video of this weekend's competitions will be available through the SDSU Athletics YouTube channel.
On Saturday, the Jackrabbits will honor Lydia Loken, Hannah Steele and Paige Wellendorf on Senior Day against Minnesota Crookston. Competition is slated to begin at approximately 1 p.m., following the conclusion of a head-to-head matchup between UMC and Baylor.
Steele has been stellar in her senior year, boasting winning records in both jumping seat disciplines (5-4 fences and 6-3 flat). The Georgia native holds two Most Outstanding Rider awards she earned in fences this season.
In reining, Loken sits at 1-3 this season after winning her first head-to-head of the year against Isabella Hehr of Baylor 71-70.5. Loken's performance earned her MOP of reining in that competition.
Wellendorf sits at 2-6-1 on the year in the horsemanship events. The senior earned her wins in SDSU's competitions against UC Davis and Delaware State.
South Dakota State, 2-7 overall and 2-3 against ECAC opponents, has faced both of its weekend foes already this season, beating Minnesota Crookston, 12-4, on Nov. 2 and falling to Baylor, 14-3, on Feb. 1.
Since then, Baylor has fallen in two of their last three matches against No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 6 Fresno State but saw a victory over No. 2 TCU.
