Allison Mayfield has been an assistant coach at South Dakota State since February 2022. She enters her second season with the Jacks in 2023.
The Jackrabbits went 18-15 overall and 11-7 in Summit League action in 2022, Mayfield's first season. The team finished with a winning record for the second straight year, marking the first time SDSU has had consecutive winning seasons since 2006-2007. The Jackrabbits accepted an invitation to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship and beat Louisiana in the opening round for the first national postseason victory in program history. Crystal Burk was named to the all-Summit League first team for the second straight season and Masa Scheierman was an all-freshman team selection.
Mayfield joined the Jackrabbits from App State, where she served as an assistant coach during the 2021 season. With the Mountaineers, Mayfield was primarily responsible for training the pin attackers and defensive specialists, a role she will also take on at South Dakota State. Prior to her time in North Carolina, Mayfield served as a volunteer assistant at Texas A&M from January-July 2021.
Mayfield was a four-year player at Kansas, where she ranks sixth on the Jayhawks' all-time kills list with 1,282 in her career. She also tops the single-season kills chart at Kansas, tallying 462 as a senior in 2011, on her way to all-Big 12 honors. Before joining the coaching ranks, she spent eight years playing professionally overseas with stops in Peru, Hungary, Greece, Finland, Switzerland and France.
Mayfield a native of Overland Park, Kansas but is familiar with the state of South Dakota. Mayfield's sister and her family live in Sioux Falls.
