While the rest of the campus celebrates the 97th annual Hobo Day (South Dakota State's homecoming) in Brookings, the South Dakota State volleyball team wraps up its four-match roadtrip this weekend, when the Jackrabbits try to snap a dismal 11-match skid with Summit League matches at IPFW on Friday and at Oakland on Saturday.
The Jacks come into the week with a 1-11 overall record, 0-2 in league play, after dropping a 3-1 match at Northern Iowa on Tuesday and a 3-1 match at North Dakota State on Saturday.
IPFW starts the week with a 6-8 overall record, 3-1 in The Summit League, but host Wright State on Tuesday in Fort Wayne, Ind. Oakland enters its home match against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday with a 4-11 overall record, 1-3 in league play.
The Jacks and Mastodons split the season series in 2007, with the Jacks winning a 3-0 match at Frost Arena, and falling in five games in Fort Wayne. The two teams met again for The Summit League's postseason title on Nov. 17, 2007 in Fort Wayne, but this time SDSU held on for the win and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
SDSU swept the 2007 series with Oakland, winning 3-1 in Rochester and 3-0 at Frost Arena.
Mackenzie Angner leads the Jacks, and The Summit League, with 193 kills, 39 more kills than any other player in the league (in five less sets) and 94 more than any other Jackrabbit. Angner also leads the Jacks with 582 attempts, 72 more than the next two closest teammates combined.
With fellow freshman Kelli Fiegen out with an injury, Ellyce Youngren picked up her game last week, tallying 18 kills over the two matches in 46 attempts with just six errors for a team-high .261 hitting percentage. Youngren also leads the Jackrabbit hitters with an overall .197 hitting percentage and leads the team with seven solo blocks.
Despite missing the last two matches, Fiegen still leads the team with 22 block assists and is tied with Youngren with a team-high 28 total blocks.
Melia Iwamoto enters the week with a team-high 323 set assists and tied with Rachel Dahl with a team-high 13 aces. Dahl also ranks second on the team with 135 digs.
RABBITS ON THE RADIO ? All Jackrabbit volleyball matches, home and on the road, can be heard on AM 910 KJJQ, with Tyler Merriam doing the play-by-play. The pre-game show begins approximately 20 minutes before first serve.

SDSU VOLLEYBALL ON Mediacom ? South Dakota State athletics teamed-up with Mediacom to increase its presence throughout the 2008 season. Replays of Jackrabbit home volleyball matches can be seen Monday-Thursday on the Mediacom Connections Channel in South Dakota and Minnesota at 12:30 p.m., and on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The Nana Allison-Brewer coach's show can be seen Monday-Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
IPFW Mastodons (6-8, 3-1, Summit) ? The Mastodons enter the week with a 6-8 overall record, 3-1 in The Summit League after going 1-1 last week, which includes a 3-0 victory at Centenary and a 3-0 loss at Oral Roberts. IPFW hosts Wright State (5-9, 3-1 Horizon League) on Tuesday in Fort Wayne.
Jessica Miller leads a balanced IPFW offensive attack with 131 kills, Ashley Dillon adds 121 and Rebekah Roehm 111 through the first 14 matches. Jessica Dominiak leads the way with 362 set assists and Jamie Schwartz, along with Roehm, lead the ?Dons with 159 digs.
As a team, IPFW owns a 63-54 edge in service aces over their opponents and out-hit them .209-.206.
Oakland Golden Grizzlies (4-11, 1-3 Summit) ? The Golden Grizzlies split their two league matches last week with a 3-0 victory at UMKC and a 3-0 loss at Oral Roberts. Oakland hosts Eastern Michigan (6-10, 1-1 MAC) on Tuesday in Rochester, Mich.
Adrienne Leone leads the Golden Grizzlies offense with 125 kills, followed by Stephanie Parkin with 112. Parkin also leads the team with 125 digs. Leah Dupule ranks a distant third on the team with 87 kills.
Katy Wilson handles the majority of the setting duties, entering the week with 255. Samantha Fillpek also does some setting, and comes into the week with 199 set assists to go along with her 20 kills.
Through 15 matches, OU opponents out-hit the Golden Grizzlies .170-.151 and their opponents own an 83-54 edge in service aces.
Oakland enters the week tied for second in The Summit League with 21 solo blocks, in sole possession of second place with 200 block assists for a league-high total of 121 total blocks.
