BROOKINGS, S.D. —Despite four players scoring in double figures, the South Dakota State University women's basketball team suffered an 88-81 nonconference loss to Creighton Tuesday night in front of 1,821 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits, now 1-1, saw their 22-game home win streak, tying the school record, snapped.
Creighton, 1-1, used nine three-point field goals in the first half to build a 47-31 lead.
The Jacks rallied to cut the lead to two, 70-68, in the second half after two foul shots by sophomore forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.). However, the Bluejays scored the game's next five points to push the lead to seven.
Senior forward Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) scored a career-high 21 points and snared a game-high 9 rebounds to lead the Jacks. Classmate Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) added 17 points while sophomore Kerri Young (Mitchell) added 15 points. Freshman Macy Miller (Mitchell) scored 11 points. Miller and Waytashek each had three assists while Miller and Clarin each blocked two shots.
Creighton's Marissa Janning scored 21 points, 18 coming in the first half. Brianna Rollerson and MC McGrory each added 13 points. Creighton finished the contest with 14 three-point field goals.
The Jacks travel to Chicago Saturday to face No. 18/20 DePaul.
