            BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota State women's basketball team has a chance to avenge one of its losses Sunday when it hosts Creighton (20-13) in the second round of the Women's NIT in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.
           The Jackrabbits advanced to the round of 32 with a commanding 78-61 win over Butler University Thursday. Junior Mariah Clarin turned in her third double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
           The Bluejays defeated Missouri, 77-51, Thursday, Big East Player of the Year Marissa Janning finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
           The winner of Sunday's game faces the winner of the SMU vs. Minnesota game in the WNIT's Sweet Sixteen March 26-28. Location and time is yet to be determined. The WNIT Championship is April 5 at 2:30 p.m. CT on the CBS Sports Network.     Â

POSTSEASON HISTORY
-The Jackrabbit women's basketball team is making its eighth consecutive Division I postseason appearance after accepting its third Women's NIT invitation. SDSU qualified for the Women's NIT in 2007 and 2008 while completing its transition to Division I.
-SDSU is 4-7 in Division I postseason games, including 3-2 in the WNIT.-Following is a look at SDSU's postseason experience at the Division I level:

-SDSU also had a rich tradition of women's basketball in NCAA Division II, making nine postseason appearances, including three consecutive Elite Eight appearances (2002, 2003, 2004) to close its run at that level. The Jackrabbits won the 2003 NCAA Division II national championship, defeating Northern Kentucky, 65-50, in St. Joseph, Mo.
SETTING THE SCENE
-South Dakota State makes its second appearance in the Women's NIT second round Sunday.
-The Jackrabbits and the Bluejays meet for the second time this season. Creighton won the first meeting 68-63 Nov. 12 in Omaha.
-The last time the Jacks won two postseason games was in 2007 when they beat Illinois State, 61-48, and Indiana, 60-53, in the 2007 Women's NIT.
-SDSU sports a 3-1 record vs. WNIT teams in Frost Arena with its lone loss to Creighton in the first round of the 2008 WNIT.
-The Jackrabbits sport a 15-0 record in the friendly confines of Frost Arena this year and own an 18-game home win streak that ranks seventh in the NCAA. The last time they lost in Frost was Jan. 19, 2013, to IUPUI.
-SDSU is ranked 12th in the latest CollegeInsider Mid-Major poll.
WNIT FIELD
-The 64-team field was cut to 32 teams after Friday's games. Still in the tournament on SDSU's quarter of the bracket are Minnesota, SMU, Marquette, Indiana, Northwestern and IUPUI.
-Seven of the top-50 teams in the country started in the 64-team field. Additionally, 35 have at least 20 wins and 10 won league titles.
-Two of SDSU's 2013-14 opponents—Creighton and IUPUI—are on the Jackrabbits' side of the bracket.
QUICK GLANCE AT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
-Head coach Aaron Johnston's probable starters vs. Creighton are senior Hannah Strop (4.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg), junior forward Mariah Clarin (8.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg), junior guards Megan Waytashek (11.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg), Gabrielle Boever (6.2 ppg, 2.5 apg) and senior guard Steph Paluch (10.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg). The lineup sports a 20-8 record.
-Waytashek has scored in double figures in 19 of 32 games, and eight other Jacks have posted double-digit scoring games. Waytashek, Paluch, junior Megan Stuart and freshman Kerri Young have SDSU's only 20-plus point games this season. Clarin registered the Jacks' fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds vs. Butler Thursday. The forward has three double-doubles on the season.
-SDSU is shooting 40.6 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from three-point range and 74.1 percent from the free-throw line. The Jacks are also averaging 70.5 points per game and limiting opponents to 66.1 points per outing.
-The Jacks have a deep squad with nine players averaging at least 13 minutes per game. Their bench averages 29.3 points per outing this season.
A QUICK GLANCE AT CREIGHTON
-Creighton advanced to the second round of the WNIT after defeating Missouri, 77-51, Thursday in Omaha.
-In the win Thursday, Creighton shot 55.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range, sinking six three-pointers.
-Big East Player of the Year Marissa Janning had 19 points, All-Big East second team pick Sarah Nelson tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds and All-Big East second team pick Alexis Akin-Otiko added 10 points off the bench.
-The Bluejays finished the regular season 19-13 overall and 12-6 in the Big East. Creighton advanced to the semifinals of the Big East Tournament before losing to St. John's, 68-63 in double overtime March 10.
-Creighton is led by Janning and Nelson.
Janning led the Big East Conference in scoring (17.8), while Nelson led Creighton in rebounding (7.9).Â
CREIGHTON SERIES
-Sunday's game vs. Creighton marks the sixth meeting between the Jackrabbits and the Bluejays.
-South Dakota State is 0-5 vs. Creighton, losing 68-59 Nov. 12. The Bluejays also ended the Jacks' 2008 WNIT bid, winning 76-69 in Frost Arena.
-Junior Megan Waytashek averages 12.5 points and classmate Mariah Clarin 7.0 points and 5.5 rebounds vs. the Bluejays in their last two outings.
-SDSU is 3-11 vs. Big East teams. The Jackrabbits beat Georgetown, Nov. 15, 86-80, in Frost Arena Nov. 15, and Butler, 78-61, Thursday.
LAST MEETING
Nov. 12, 2013 — Creighton 68, South Dakota State 59
OMAHA, Neb.—Marissa Janning gave Creighton a 61-59 lead with 47 seconds remaining as the Bluejays closed the nonconference game with a 10-4 run to hand South Dakota State a 68-63 loss at the D.J. Sokol Arena.
The Jacks were led by Steph Paluch as she scored 17 points. Mariah Clarin added 12 points while Megan Waytashek recorded 11 points.
SDSU used a 7-0 run to take a 59-58 lead when Clarin scored with 2:40 remaining. Unfortunately, the Jackrabbits turned the ball over on back-to-back possessions.
Janning had a game-high 20 points, including eight of Creighton's last 10 points.    Â
The Jackrabbits outrebounded Creighton, 39-26. Hannah Strop recorded a game-high eight rebounds while Clarin snared seven. Gabby Boever led SDSU with seven assists and two steals.
