BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dec. 3, 2015 – The South Dakota State University women's basketball team's scoring balance powered the Jackrabbits to a 74-65 nonconference win over Portland State Thursday night in front of 1,509 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits, now 5-2, were led by Clarissa Ober's 19 points and career-high 13 rebounds. A junior forward from Glencoe, Minn., Ober also added three blocked shots. Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a career-high 12 points while sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) snared a career-high 12 rebounds.
Portland State, now 0-6, was led Kian McNair's 13 points. Ashley Torres and Corey James added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Michaela Kay recorded 6 assists and 10 points.
South Dakota State opened the game on an 18-5 run as five Jackrabbits scored in the first 5:45. The Jackrabbits eventually pushed their lead to 20, 42-22, when Miller scored with 58 seconds lefts in the half. Ober and Miller scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the first 20 minutes.
Portland State opened the second half on a 14-2 run to cut the Jacks' lead to 45-41, when McNair scored with 6:24 left in the third quarter. SDSU then scored four-straight points to make it 49-41 with 5:17 remaining. The Jackrabbits eventually pushed the lead to 15, 60-45, when Young scored at 1:38 left in the quarter.
South Dakota State plays Northern Colorado at 4 p.m. Saturday in Frost Arena in the annual the Dairy Drive game.
