BROOKINGS, S.D.—Dec. 5, 2015—The South Dakota State University women's basketball team made the most of eight second-half field goals Saturday afternoon in a 66-62 nonconference win over Northern Colorado in front of 2,449 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits, now 6-2, used a 3-point field goal by senior guard Gabrielle Boever (Worthington, Minn.) with 23.7 seconds remaining to take a 65-61 lead over the Bears. The teams then closed the game by making one free throw.
South Dakota State had four players score in double figures. Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) led the way with 14 points while freshman guard Madison Guebert added a career-high 13 points. Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) recorded her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Kerry Young (Mitchell) finished with 10 points.
Northern Colorado (5-3) was led by Katie Longwell's 17 points. Longwell made five 3-pointers.
UNC led 12-11 after the first quarter as the Jackrabbits made only 3 of 14 shots. SDSU opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run and eventually pushed its lead to 11, 40-29, when Miller scored with 47 seconds left in the half. Ober scored on an offensive putback before the buzzer to give SDSU a 42-29 lead. The Jacks made 12 of 17 shots in the second quarter.
Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter but UNC opened the fourth quarter with a 16-7 run to trail 59-55 with 3:25 left after a steal and layup by Savannah Scott. The Bears cut the lead to one, 62-61, on a Longwell 3-pointer with 1:40 remaining.
The teams traded misses before Boever hit a 3-pointer from the left wing for the 65-61 lead.
South Dakota State sank 12 3-pointers in the contest as seven Jackrabbits made at least one.
The Jackrabbits close a three-game homestand with a 7 p.m. contest Wednesday against Northern Iowa.
