BROOKINGS, S.D.—With four starters scoring in double figures, the South Dakota State University women's basketball team recorded its eighth-straight home win, picking up a 77-67 victory Saturday afternoon over the University of South Dakota in front of 4,594 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits improve to 19-8 overall and 10-4 in The Summit League. USD is now 21-6, 11-3.
Senior Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) led South Dakota State with 18 points and four assists. Freshman guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 16 points and a game- and career-high 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Sophomore guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) scored 12 points while senior forward Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) recorded 10 points, 8 in the second half.
USD's Nicole Seekamp scored 18 points while Bridget Arens and Margaret McCloud added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Jackrabbits used a 14-4 run late in the first half to pull away to a 33-23 lead. Five players scored in that run, which lasted over seven minutes. South Dakota State led 34-26 at half.
South Dakota State opened a 13-point lead, 43-30, with 16:13 remaining on a layup by Young. USD rallied, cutting the lead to 4, 56-52, with 9:14 to play. The Coyotes could not get any closer.
The Jackrabbits host Western Illinois Thursday at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena.
