FORT WAYNE, IND. — The South Dakota State men's team dismantled Western Illinois, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Kachmann Tennis Center.
"The boys did a great job after a long day of travel yesterday," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We had a lot of reasons to be sluggish today, and we were able to overcome the obstacles and play Jackrabbit tennis."
The Jackrabbits won five singles matches in straight sets. Henrique Pereira (No. 2), Parker Lawley (No. 3) and Lovro Curcija (No. 4) scored commanding 6-1, 6-0 victories. Mateus Moreira (No. 5) and Gary Notkin (No. 6) blanked their opponents, 6-0, 6-0.
The Jackrabbits also swept the doubles matches. Andrea Boglic and Lawley scored an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Stefano Blatt and Notkin won, 8-2, at second doubles while Moreira and Pereira tallied an 8-1 victory at third doubles.
With the win, the Jackrabbits improved to 14-8 (3-2 SL). The Fighting Leathernecks fell to 0-18 (0-6 SL).
South Dakota State returns to the court tomorrow to take on Fort Wayne at 6 p.m.
NOTES: Lawley and Curcija remain tied for the team lead in singles wins, each moving to 13-7 ... Lawley and Curcija are each riding a four-match winning streak ... Boglic and Lawley posted their team-leading 15th doubles win ... Boglic and Lawlery are now 15-4 at first doubles.
