LAWRENCE, Kan.—The South Dakota State volleyball dropped a three-set match to Missouri State Saturday, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-13 in the Jayhawk Classic hosted by Kansas.
Sophomore Ashley Beaner (Sioux Falls) led the Jackrabbits (1-14) with 9 kills and hit .333. Defensively, SDSU was led by freshman Ellie Benson (Sioux Falls) with nine digs.
Lily Johnson led Missouri State (9-3) with 12 kills and hit .545. Lynsey Wright added 10 kills and two block assists.
SDSU spotted Missouri State 10-point leads in both the first and second sets.
In the third set, the Jackrabbits started strong, getting two kills from Beaner and one each from sophomore Mikala Hora (Yankton) and senior Wagner Larson (Sioux Falls) to take a 4-3 lead. The Bears took the lead for good by outscoring the Jacks down the stretch.
The Jackrabbits return to action at 5 p.m. when they play Gonzaga.
