BROOKINGS, S.D.—Jan. 23, 2016—With three players scoring in double figures and all 11 active players scoring in the contest, the South Dakota State University women's basketball team recorded an 85-63 win over Western Illinois Saturday afternoon in front of 1,963 fans at Frost Arena in The Summit League action.
Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) led the Jackrabbits, now 16-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play, with 21 points. Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) added 17 points and sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) had 10 points, 7 rebounds and a game-high 5 assists. The trio made 19 of 31 field goals, 61.3 percent, in the contest.
Western Illinois, now 11-9 and 4-3, was led by Sophie Reichelt's 21 points and 9 rebounds. Michelle Maher added 13 points.
South Dakota State opened the game with a 7-0 run and then closed the second quarter with a 16-4 run to lead 44-23 at halftime. Young scored 12 of her points in the first half while Guebert added 10, seven of those coming in the first quarter. The Jackrabbits made 19 of 35 field goals in the first half, including six 3-point field goals.
SDSU took its biggest lead, 29 points at 74-45 with 6:41 to play, when Guebert and Miller hit back-to-back 3-point field goals.
The Jackrabbits will play Oral Roberts, which is also 6-1 in The Summit League, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
