TULSA, Okla.—Jan. 27, 2016—Sophomore forward Ellie Thompson scored a game-high 16 points to lead the South Dakota State women's basketball team to a 68-50 win over Oral Roberts Wednesday night in The Summit League action at the Mabee Center.
The Jackrabbits improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in The Summit League. The Golden Eagles fall to 9-11 overall and 6-2 in league play. The win snaps the Golden Eagles' six-game winning streak and extends the Jackrabbits' league road record to 4-0.
Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) was 7 of 10 from the field and grabbed 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists and junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) returned to the starting lineup and recorded 12 points and 3 blocks, including her 100th career block.
Oral Roberts was led by Jordan Doyle's 11 points and Maria Martianez's 14 rebounds.
South Dakota State used an 8-0 run, fueled by back-to-back 3-point field goals by senior guard Chloe Cornemann (Yankton), midway through the first quarter and took an eight-point lead, 21-13, on sophomore guard Alexis Alexander's (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) 3-point field goal at 4:46. Oral Roberts cut SDSU's lead to four at halftime, 27-23, with a 3-point field goal by Doyle.
Miller opened the third quarter by scoring five of her 11 second-half points to put the Jackrabbits up 32-23. South Dakota State outscored the Golden Eagles 21-11 in the third quarter. Thompson scored six points, freshman Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) made a pair of 3-point field goals and Miller added a basket with one second left to give SDSU a 14-point lead, 48-34.
South Dakota State's largest lead was 20, 68-48, when freshman Sydney Palmer (Pierre) sank a pair of free throws with 38 seconds left.
The Jackrabbits continue their two-game road swing with a 7 p.m. game at Omaha Feb. 4.
