OMAHA—Feb. 4, 2016—The South Dakota State women's basketball team used a 21-7 run in the first half and never looked back in its 65-47 Summit League win over Omaha Thursday in front of 631 fans in Baxter Arena.
The Jackrabbits, 18-4 overall and 8-1 in league play, were led by sophomore point guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) who scored 11 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and recorded 3 steals. Sophomore guard Alexis Alexander (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) came off the bench to register a career-high 11 points. Senior guard Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.) had seven points, season-high seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) recorded seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Omaha (11-11, 4-6) was led by Mikaela Shaw's 15 points. Abi Lujan added 10 points.
SDSU opened the game on a 9-0 run fueled by six points by Miller. Another 8-0 run with under four minutes left in the first half put the Jackrabbits up 19-5 at 2:03.
Layups by junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) and freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) and then a 3-pointer by Boever gave South Dakota State a 27-7 lead four minutes into the second quarter. The Jackrabbits took a 40-18 lead into halftime, limiting the Mavericks to five field goals and forcing 17 turnovers.
The Jackrabbits built their largest lead, 53-28, with 7:11 to play in the game on a Young layup.
South Dakota State hosts North Dakota State at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Frost Arena.
