CRETE, Neb.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-0 win over Doane College Saturday night at the Lincoln Racket Club.
With the win, the Jackrabbits improve to 1-4 and the Tigers fall to 1-3.
"After a long layoff, the guys came out and played great. You can tell they took the tough schedule to start the season the right way, leading up to today's match," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We have a lot of tennis over the next month and you can tell from today we are ready for any and all challenges ahead."
Senior Lovro Curcija defeated Kristian Kiland, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 2-0 in dual matches at No. 1 singles. Senior Henrique Pereira won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4.
Senior Mateus Moreira, freshman Emerson Styles, junior Lucas Pereira and freshman Chuck Tang all won their matches at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Jackrabbits won the doubles point for the first time this season. Lucas Pereira and Tang won 8-4 at No. 1, Moreira and Henrique Pereira won 8-5 at No. 2 and Styles and sophomore Marco Paulo Castro won 8-2 at No. 3.
SDSU returns to action Friday when they play at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 11 a.m.
