MURRAY, Ky.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team won its second-consecutive match of the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Murray State Saturday night at Kenlake State Park.
With the win, the Jackrabbits improve to 3-4 while the Racers drop to 1-5.
"Tonight was one of our better matches all year. Murray State is a young, energetic and hungry team and we did a great job matching their intensity," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We had a great come-from-behind doubles win and we were able to carry that momentum into singles. It was a good win for us and we look forward to some matches in South Dakota next weekend."
For the third-straight match, SDSU won the double point. Junior Lucas Pereira and freshman Chuck Tang won at No. 2, 6-3, and sophomore Marco Paulo Castro and junior Jonny Higham came from behind for a 7-5 win at No. 3.
In singles, freshman Emerson Styles won his second collegiate dual match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. Senior Mateus Moreira won his third-consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Castro won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Pereira won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 for his third-straight win.
The Jackrabbits return to action Feb. 27 when they host William Jewell at 8:30 a.m. and North Dakota at 3:30 p.m. at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls.
