SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–March 8, 2016–South Dakota State University sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) recorded her second career double-double as the Jackrabbits recorded a 61-55 win over South Dakota in The Summit League Women's Basketball Championship Tuesday afternoon in front of a championship game record 8,647 fans at the PREMIER Center.
Miller, who finished with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, was named the tournament's most valuable player. Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) added 14 points, including a game-high three 3-point field goals, to earn a place on the all-tournament team. Sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) also scored 11 points and blocked 3 shots.
The tournament win is South Dakota State's seventh in the past eight championships. SDSU is now 21-1 all-time in the tournament. The Jackrabbits, who will receive The Summit League's automatic NCAA Tournament berth, are 26-6.
USD, now 26-6, was led by Nicole Seekamp's 22 points. Kelly Stewart added 11 points.
The Jackrabbits took a 40-38 lead when Thompson scored with three seconds left in the third quarter to snap the game's fifth tie.
Guebert then opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer for a 43-38 lead and the Jackrabbits never looked back. Guebert added another three minutes into the period to give SDSU a 48-42 lead. Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) sank two foul shots with 61 seconds remaining to give the Jackrabbits a 59-49 lead, their largest.
South Dakota State will learn its next opponent during the NCAA Selection Show March 14.
