BROOKINGS, S.D.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team picked up a nonleague match against Augustana University Friday at 4 p.m. at the Huether Tennis Centre in Sioux Falls.
"The last few days have shown a tremendous bounce back from the IUPUI match last Friday. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves that match and it took us a while to recover. Credit goes to the team for regrouping and focusing on nothing but the opportunity ahead over the next two weeks," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "The match Friday is going to be an opportunity for us to play outdoors and really get the fight back in our system. I couldn't be happier with where we are mentally right now, and, if we carry that into the match Friday, our tennis will take care of itself."
The Jackrabbits are 11-10 overall and look to snap a two-match losing streak. In their last outing, the Jacks fell 5-2 to Summit League member IUPUI April 8.
Sophomore Marco Paulo Castro has lost just three singles matches this season and sports an 11-3 overall record and 9-1 mark at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Castro and junior Jonny Higham are 10-3 overall and in dual matches. The duo is 6-1 at No. 2 and 3-0 at No. 3.
Augustana is 8-8 overall and has lost three of its last five matches.
