FORT WAYNE, Indiana — Junior
Ellie Thompson led three players in double figures in scoring as the South Dakota State women's basketball team defeated Fort Wayne 76-59 Saturday afternoon in front of 633 fans at the Hillard Gates Sports Center in The Summit League action.
With the win, State improves to 20-7 overall and 11-4 in The Summit League. The 20–win season is SDSU's sixth consecutive and 20
th overall.
Thompson scored a game-high 20 points for her fourth 20-plus point game this season. Sophomore
Madison Guebert registered 15 points and 4 assists. Senior
Clarissa Ober added 11 points, 3 assists and 2 blocks to go with game-high totals of 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Jackrabbits shot 54.2 percent from the field, including 63.6 percent (7 of 11) from 3-point range. The 3-point percentage was the highest since setting the school record of 65.2 (15 of 23) vs. Minnesota State-Mankato, March 2, 2004.
Selena Lozada and Peyton Fallis led Fort Wayne, 5-22, 2-12, with 12 points each.
Ober scored seven points in a 15-4 run to put the Jackrabbits up 18-8 with 2:42 remaining in the first quarter. Fort Wayne scored the final four points to pull within six, 18-12.
The Jackrabbits built a 14-point lead midway through the second quarter, but Fort Wayne used an 11-2 run to cut the lead to five points, 32-27, with 2:03 to play in the half. The Mastodons sank three 3-pointers in the run. Guebert scored South Dakota State's final five points before Atkins hit a 3-pointer with a second left. The Jacks led 37-30 at halftime.
A 3-pointer by
Kerri Young with 8:11 left in the third quarter started a 12-2 run, which included five points from Guebert and finished with an Alexander layup for a 53-35 lead. Young scored four points later in the quarter for a 64-43 lead.
SDSU had its largest lead of the game, 69-45, when Ober sank a pair of free throws with 6:15 to play.

- Kerri Young moved into 20th in career scoring and now has 1,288 career points.
- Clarissa Ober grabbed her 700th career rebound. She now has 706 and ranks 10th in career rebounds.
- Madison Guebert sank three 3-pointers to move into third in single-season 3-point field goals (83).
- Guebert also moved into 10th in single-season scoring for sophomores (412).
- Thompson surpassed the 900-point mark for her career. She now has scored 913 career points.
