Â
Announced by the Pre-Nationals race director at Indiana State Thursday morning, the Jackrabbit men will line up Saturday morning against the nation's top talent in the blue race.Â
Â
"We've been given a great opportunity to be able to compete at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute on the course that will host the national championships," said head coach
Rod DeHaven.
Â
The 41-team blue race will consist of 11 nationally ranked teams including BYU (2
nd), Colorado (3
rd), Washington (4
th), Ole Miss (8
th), Oklahoma State (14
th), Indiana (15
th), Iona (21
st), Eastern Kentucky (25
th), Arkansas (27
th), Virginia Tech (29
th) and Florida State (30
th). Among the rest of the field are all regionally ranked teams, coming in at 12th or better in their respective regions.Â
Â
"We have the opportunity to run against the very best of the best, and (Pre-Nationals) gives ourselves a chance to measure our program in that fashion," said DeHaven.Â
Â
The men's blue race is set to go off at 11:35 Eastern Time.
Â
On the women's side, the Jacks will be running in the 28-team white race at 12:15 against a handful of regionally ranked competition.Â
Â
"That opportunity gives them a little bit better chance maybe not to be overwhelmed and automatically feel like they're pushed to the back of that group," said DeHaven. I think there's a lot of teams that we will beat in there, and whether or not we can contend all the way up front will be interesting."
Â
Ron Pynn Classic:Â
Grand Forks, N.D.
Ron Richards Golf Course
MEN: 1:15 CST
WOMEN: 12:20 CST
Â
As for the Jacks not taking the flight to Terre Haute, they'll get another look at Summit League foes North Dakota State and North Dakota at the Ron Pynn Classic at Ron Richards golf course before conference championships in two weeks .
Â
"We do have some people in that boat that are trending in the right direction and those are people that, particularly on the guys side, could still contend for all-conference honors and that's a testament to the depth of our team at this point," said DeHaven.Â
Â
The gun is set to go off at 12:20 for the women and 1:15 for the men.Â
