Jacks look back at Griak, ready for Briar Cliff

After a successful weekend at the Roy Griak invitational, the Jackrabbits cross country program readies for another race this Saturday at the Briar Cliff Invitational in N. Sioux City.

The Jackrabbit men are coming off a third place finish at the Griak, one of the premier (and most challenging) cross country meets in the nation, while the women finished eighth, only coming in behind Summit League rival North Dakota State and a handful of regionally ranked opponents.Â

"I'm proud of our student athletes that stepped on the line. We've stepped on the line every year as a division one program at this meet whether it's been 85 degrees or 50 degrees," said head coach Rod DeHaven.

As a result of the team's efforts at the Griak, the men jumped four positions to be named 11th overall in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll.Â

On the women's side, junior Anna Donnay ran the fastest Griak time in Jackrabbit women's cross country history, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21:35.0 in the field of 147 runners.

The Jackrabbits head to the Briar Cliff Invitational this weekend. Hosted by the university of the same name, the Jacks will be up against similar talent as they saw in the first two meets of the season.

Currently, the Jacks are the only Div. I team entered in Saturday's race.
Â
Fifth-year senior Chase Cayo returns to the Jacks lineup at Briar Cliff. The 2017 Summit League Champion missed the first three races of this season after coming off a stress fracture.Â

Saturday's race at Adam's Nature Preserve in N. Sioux City is set to go off with the women's race at 10, followed by the men's at 10:45.
