NORMAN, Okla. — South Dakota State men's golfers Jacob Otta and Jonah Dohrer were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.
Otta and Dohrer were two of a record 614 honorees, including 376 Division I selections. 2020 marks the first year in which sophomores are eligible for the award. This is Otta's second time receiving the honor, while Dohrer is a first-time selection.
Otta holds a 3.51 GPA in human biology. He played in all seven events for the Jackrabbits and recorded a 75.50 stroke average during the 2019-20 season. Otta shot a season-low 54 hole score of 216 (E) at the Quail Valley Invitational. He has a career stroke average of 75.53 on at total 89 rounds.Â
Dohrer has a cumulative GPA of 3.49 in business economics. During his sophomore season, the now junior played in six events and ranked second on the team with a 74.64 stroke average. Dohrer registered a top-10 finish this season, tying for 7th at the Jackrabbit Invitational.Â
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
