South Dakota State volleyball picked up its second win of the weekend Saturday with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21) victory over Kansas City at Frost Arena.
Jackrabbit outside hitters
Crystal Burk and
Chloe Stitt both had a double-double for the Jacks, the third time this season they have managed the feat in the same contest. The pair notched 19 and 16 kills, respectively, and had 17 digs each.
Â
The Jackrabbits trailed for just one total point through sets one and two and the Roos managed only six ties across the two games.
Â
SDSU took a 12-8 lead in set one on a kill by
Sydney Andrews but then allowed four unanswered points by KC for the 12-12 tie. The set was even again at 13-13 and 14-14 before the Jacks took their final lead.
Crystal Burk capped off the set with a kill.
Â
After an SDSU service error to start set two, the Jacks scored eight straight points behind two kills apiece from
Crystal Burk and
Chloe Stitt. The Roos clawed their way back and three straight kills made it a one-point game at 19-18. SDSU held the Roos off through the remainder of the set, however, and notched three consecutive points to win by five.
Â
Kansas City kept the match alive with a 25-20 win in set three. The set stayed tight until the Roos outscored the Jacks 7-2 at the end and cut the Jacks' match lead to one game.Â
Â
Hailee Blau notched three straight kills to help the Jackrabbits to a14-5 lead in set four. The Roos rattled off a 9-0 run, however, to but themselves back in the set at 14-all. SDSU caught fire again after a 16-16 tie and used a 7-1 stretch to go up 23-17, a run capped off by back-to-back aces by Stitt. Kansas City fended off four match points before Blau ended the contest with her seventh kill.
Â
Blau and
Ella Thompson were the most efficient Jackrabbit attackers. Blau's seven kills came on 12 attacks with no errors for a .583 clip while Thompson notched 11 kills and three errors on 18 attacks for a .444 hitting percentage. Thompson also took part in six blocks.
Carly Wedel finished with 31 helpers and
Jasmine Weidemann added 19 assists.
Tatum Pickar led all players with 19 digs in the match to go with a pair of service aces.
Â
SDSU avenged being swept by KC earlier this season, the second win over a previous loss for the Jacks this year. SDSU lost to Oral Roberts 2-3 October 2 and turned the tables Thursday with a five-set thriller at Frost.
