Casey VanDamme, who has served as South Dakota State's director of golf for the past seven seasons, has stepped down to accept the position as head women's golf coach at Kent State.Â
In his seven seasons, VanDamme has coached 22 all-league golfers, three players of the year, three individual Summit League champions, two newcomers of the year and the first women's golf All-American at South Dakota State. Â
In his time with the Jackrabbits, VanDamme led the men's team to its first Summit League Championship. SDSU claimed back-to-back Summit League titles during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The two-time Summit League Men's Golf Coach of the Year helped State become one of five league teams since 1983 to make two-or-more NCAA Regional appearances. The men's team has also set the 18, 36 and 54-hole records and the single-season record for rounds and career rounds under VanDamme's guidance.Â
He has led the women's team to setting the program record in tournaments for 18, 36 and 54-hole scoring. VanDamme's teams own the season records in stroke average as well as top-five, top-10 and top-25 team finishes. He coached the women's golf team to 15 team wins in his seven years and 48 top-five finishes.Â
Prior to joining the Jackrabbits, VanDamme spent five seasons at Tennessee as director of instruction/player development, beginning in 2009. During his tenure, Tennessee equaled its best postseason stretch in school history with five trips to the NCAA Championship regionals, advancing to the 2010, 2011 and 2013 NCAA Championships.Â
